Waterfalls, RiceFields, & Mountains… Need We Say More?

The Sidemen Valley is a hidden gem of Bali, Indonesia. Cradled among the many hills that hold the rich, rice paddy fields, which is their main crop here. The Subak irrigation system developed in the 9th century give the beautiful terraced landscapes that are captivating to experience and photograph. The vivid green backdrop is a great place to take a hike. It is quite scenic and laid back, very different from the bustle of Ubud, which is more than an hour away. Walter Spies was a famous Russian-born German primitivist painter, composer, musicologist, and curator, who moved from the busy city to the surrounding hills to relax and create. You can ramble through the Village of Sidemen which is an authentic look at how traditional Balinese people live. This area is mainly known for its craftsmanship of various textiles like Endek and Songket which are weaved by using gold and silver threads with cotton in a conventional way as part of their culture. The smooth fabric is is donned by many in the traditional sarongs they wear daily. You can watch the wooden looms women hand thread to create this beautiful fabric. The region is also rich in music and religion. There is a Hindu temple, Pura Puseh Desa Pakraman Tabola in walking distance from the resort. A few kilometers south, there are quite a few more. All around Sidemen is a place off the beaten path that you should not miss when visiting Bali.
